Curriculum

Since January 2001, I am working at the Telecommunications Research Center Vienna (Forschungszentrum Telekommunikation Wien), currently as Key Researcher for "Economic and User Aspects of Telecommunications" and Project Manager of the application-oriented project COM-7 AWARE, the strategic project U0-IVY and the EU FP7 project ETICS. Additionally, I am currently also holder of the SISCom International Research Chair on "Future Telecommunication Ecosystems" at Université Européenne de Bretagne / INRIA Rennes Bretagne-Atlantique.

Since 2001, I have the pleasure to be one of the co-chairs of the international workshop series on "Internet Charging and QoS Technology" (ICQT). ICQT'01 has taken place in Vienna (Austria) on Sept 27, 2001, as a very successful event in the framework of the GI and OCG Annual General Meeting INFORMATIK2001. ICQT'02 has been colocated to the 2002 QofIS workshop, taking place in Zurich (Switzerland) on October 16-18, 2002. In 2003, ICQT'03 has taken place in Munich together with the NGC'03 workshop. The ICQT'04 workshop has been held on Oct 1, 2004, in Barcelona (Spain), in co-location with QofIS'04. In 2005, ICQT has contributed to the CoNext'05 conference, and ICQT'06 has been organized in collaboration with SIGMETRICS/PERFORMANCE 2006 in St. Malo, France. ICQT'09 has taken place in Aachen, Germany, in collaboration with IFIP NETWORKING 2009.
Since 2002, I am member of the scientific board of the journal PIK ("Praxis der Informationsverarbeitung und Kommunikation").
Since 2003, I am member of the scientific committee of the annual IADIS International Conference e-Society.
In 2004, I was also serving on the Technical Program Committee for the 29th Annual IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN) as well as the International Conference on E-Business and Telecommunication Networks (ICETE 2004). In 2005, I am again member of the TPC for ICETE 2005 as well as for ISSPIT 2005, the 5th IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology. In 2007, I am acting as TPC member of KiVS’07, WINSYS’07, NETCOOP'07, MCCSIS’07 and GECON’07. For 2008, I have been invited to the TPC of IFIP NETWORKING’08, MMB’08, and IASTED-HCI’08, whereas my TPC obligations in 2009 include amongst others IEEE ICC, IEEE Globecom, ITC-21 and IFIP Networking'09.
I am regularly active as reviewer for a variety of international conferences like Infocom, IEEE IM, IEEE IWQoS, LCN, QofIS, NOMS, DSOM, MMB, as well as for the Computer Communications Journal, PIK, INFORMS, Journal of Computer Networks, Journal of Telecommunications Systems, NETS etc.

Unscientific Activities

Opera is one of my biggest passions. Here is a list of all 173 different operas I remember having seen on stage so far.

Since my Munich "debut" as Narr in 1993, I have been appearing on stage every now and then, e.g. as Tamino in "Die Zauberflöte" or as Sir Bruno Roberton in "I Puritani". Here is the 1997 Aachen "Trovatore" on stage (you may recognize me among the soldiers) and during a performance break, and this is my famous colleague, American baritone Sherrill Milnes, after teaching me "Una furtiva lagrima" at Villa Mazzotti in Chiari 1999. This is me at the organ during a concert with my wonderful wife Marena on Easter Monday 2002. Here is a picture of me conducting the famous "FTW Choir" at FTW's 5th birthday party in May 2004, and this is a live recording of Ernst Toch's famous "Geographical Fugue" (the video version of this remarkable event can be downloaded from here, but be aware of its size of some 83 MB...:). More recently, here I am giving a small performance during the conference dinner of NETWORKING'09.
