Fabio received the "Laurea" degree in Electronics Engineering in 1999 and the "Dottorato di Ricerca" (PhD degree) in Information and Communications Engineering in 2003, both from the University "La Sapienza" in Roma, Italy. During his PhD he collaborated with the research consortium CoRiTeL. He participated to several national research projects (FIRBS, PRIN) and to one EU project (IST-AQUILA) in the area of networking. In 2004 he joined the Forschungszentrum Telekommunikation Wien (ftw.) as a Senior Researcher and Project Manager. In 2004-05 he has been leading the METAWIN project focused on traffic measurements and analysis in an operational 3G network. The project resulted in a prototype that is now being consolidated into a carrier-grade product under a commercial contract with Kapsch CarrierCom. In 2005 he designed and started the new research project that he is now leading: DARWIN. Since 2007 he holds a position of Assistant Professor at the University of Salento, where he teaches thw course of "Telecommunication Systems". We continue collaborating with ftw. as Key Researcher and manager for the Networking area.
Research
My area of research is Networking. In the past I have worked on several topics, ranging from QoS and Traffic Engineering to Wireless Sensor Networks. More recently I have focused my research on the field of Traffic Monitoring and Analysis with application to network management. I am now leading the DARWIN project on Traffic Monitoring in 3G networks (GPRS,UMTS). I am the proposer and Chair of the recently started COST Action on Traffic Monitoring and Analysis (link).
Publications
The list of my publications is here.
Other stuff
I was maintaining a resource index for published material (papers, reports, links to other projects, etc.) about Traffic Measurements in 3G Mobile Networks (not maintained any more) (here).
Some funny pictures from San Francisco (here).
